Gasoline Prices Lower

“Gasoline Price Lower”

This Memorial Day Weekend, the media has been promoting the fact that gasoline is $.40 lower than a year ago. What does that really mean?

If we were to assume that we were going to make a 1,000 mile round trip over the holiday, and that our vehicle is able to achieve 20 miles per gallon (mpg), then we would use 50 gallons of gasoline. At a lower price of $.40 per gallon, we would save $20.00 from a year ago.

A 500 mile round trip would save us $10.00.

If our vehicle was more productive and we were able to go 30 miles on a gallon of fuel, then we would save $13.32 on a 1,000 mile trip and $6.66 on a 500 mile trip.

Would this savings enter into your decision to travel over this holiday week-end? I doubt it. Media – do the math!
